When I typed the word ‘beauty’ into google search images some of the images that I was greeted with were a flawless looking woman without a wrinkle in sight, a woman with amazing bouncy shiny looking hair, a woman with perfect looking eyebrows (or you can say they were on fleek ) and so on.
Most of the images that I came across focused on outward beauty. Outward beauty is something that many people strive to achieve each day because many people want to look their best and there is nothing wrong with that. However, when we choose to focus and invest more on our outward beauty than we do on our inward beauty then the true representation of beauty can be lost along the way.
This is because beauty is more than having the perfect figure, a flawless face, perfect “on fleek” eyebrows or an amazing contoured face.
Beauty is much more than that, beauty transcends far and beyond our outward appearance.
You can’t rely on outward beauty to carry you through life. Your outward beauty has to always be accompanied by your inner beauty.
You can be beautiful outwardly, but if you have a heart that’s filled with hatred towards others, a heart that never forgives, an ungrateful heart, a heart that’s filled with pride accompanied by an “I’m better than you attitude “, a heart that’s quick to judge other people, a heart that constantly gossips or a heart that is filled with Jealous and envy, then your outward beauty is nothing.
As I scrolled through the images on google I came across a white image with a quote on it which read;
“I truly truly believe that beauty is something that comes from within” – Emma Watson
I truly believe that my girl Emma Watson hit the nail in the head with this quote. This girl gets that beauty is more than just about physical appearance. She believes that beauty comes from within and I pray that this would be the same for other many young women.
“Do not let your adornment be merely outward, arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. ” 1 Peter 3:3-4
My dear sister, strive to put as much energy and investment in your inward beauty as much as you do when it comes to your outward beauty. Don’t be so focused on how you look outwardly that you forget about your inward beauty.
What are your priorities when you get up first thing in the morning?.
Do you invest the first minutes or hours of your morning in the presence of our great Father?.
Do you communicate with Him through prayer so that He may lead your day and guide you through your day to day decisions?.
Do you feast on His word so that when temptations come along you will be able to stand strong?.
So many young ladies are so concerned about how they look on the outside that they forget the importance of their inner beauty.
The importance of a forgiving heart
The importance of a loving heart
The importance of a thankful heart
The importance of a humble, generous and kind heart
You invest in your physical appearance by making sure that you shower, get dressed, you brush hair, your teeth or put on your make up but do you invest in your heart, do you ask for God to clothes you with His spirit and His armour. You always make sure that you get ready physically in the morning but do you get ready spiritually?.
” Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.“- Matthew 5:8
God desires for us to have a pour heart. God’s not concerned weather or not your face is flawless or weather your eyebrows are on fleek. God’s more concerned with your inward beauty because He desires for your heart to be pure.
Your looks are nothing if they are not accompanied by a pure heart because ultimately God looks at the heart.
“For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance , but the Lord looks at the heart.” – 1 Samuel 16:7
The more you invest your time and draw into God the more pure your heart will become. If you want God to pour into you and make you a better person, then you must be willing to make sacrifices for Him so that He may pour into you His spirit, His wisdom, His knowledge, His plans and purpose for your life, His thoughts and His desires.
You may spend so much time investing in your outward appearance today but tomorrow your looks may disapper so use everyday as an opportunity to invest in your inward beauty because the best kind of beauty is one which never fades away. A pure, generous, loving , kind and forgiving heart.
